Community Participation

Participation of the community in leprosy elimination activities is crucial for changing the negative image of leprosy and removing the stigma attached to the disease.

Danlep has been assisting in this process by:

• identifying obstacles to community participation
• developing strategies for community action
• facilitating the key role of the local community and its leaders
• inproving communication and collaboration between the national programme and the media on how to make leprosy elimination a priority to the community and how to generate support for its activities
• information, education and communication (IEC) to create awareness and support in the community
